An Ancient Soul
Lucy had not been able to shift her eyes from Charles’. She had dropped her head back and kept her eyes focused on his eyes the entire time. She had exposed her neck like she knew he would want.
He had surprised her then and leaned in to kiss her gently on the lips instead. He pressed his own neck down to her lips. Instinct took over, and Lucy’s fangs pierced his firm and frigid flesh.
Lucy shuddered as the memories came flowing back to her now. Drinking from Charles’ body had not been like drinking from the other bodies. His skin was leathery and icy. Lucy found that it was easy enough to puncture, though. Her teeth had become so sharp and strong. During the drink, she had pulled them out for a moment and run her tongue over them. She realized that something otherworldly had replaced her manmade fangs. She had sprouted new, real fangs.
Charles had pressed his neck to her for a second time. The smell had hit her hard then. It was a rank smell, like when a rat that had crawled into the wall of the bar and died. Lucy remembered that she had gagged, but Charles did not let up.
It had changed gradually. The taste, which had been so horrid before, took a musty and earthy turn. Lucy realized now that his blood was like a fine aged wine that needed time enough to breathe.
Lucy remembered when the blood had begun to flow into her mouth. It gushed warmly, in contrast with its frigid host. The sensation was like none she had ever known. Her lips became numb from the ice-cold skin. The hot blood seared her tongue. Her fangs tingled with the storm of sensation. Lucy’s tongue lapped loudly, and she felt Charles chuckle through the gape in his neck. Then he pushed her face away and down hard onto the pillow. At first, Lucy fought to drink more. She was strong and Charles grunted, struggling with her newfound power, but he won.
He forced her to lie still, only her tongue moving to lick her lips and her throat swallowing hard to savor the lingering flavor of his blood. He purred deep in the back of his throat, and she, quite forgetting herself, giggled in response. She said his name out loud. She loved the way her voice felt coming up and out of her throat. She loved the way her tongue caressed the roof of her mouth. She loved the way the sound of the syllables rang in her ears.
How happy I am with this … man. He has understood my greatest need, giving me what I most wanted when I didn’t even know it myself.
After she calmed, Lucy stretched below him and laughed again. Her limbs felt so wonderful and light. She felt as if she could fly out of the room. That is when he smiled down at her and took her hand. They lingered together, bent on the windowsill.
